False spring

The birds are singing today

Louder than they should be

And as I walk through the wood

Stepping quietly
Stepping like a deer

To practice in case I ever have to run
For who can now say that we will never have to run

And because I can hear the birds

More clearly

But they are singing today

Louder than they should

And though the sun

Illuminates

Teezes the gorse blossom out of bud

Thaws the frost

Spills amber gold coral branches across the sky

I worry,

Lyme Regis Campfire

I feel blessed to live in a town where it is possible to just show up and light up a fire , where passers-by can be attracted by the sparks and come be part of an inclusive gathering.

The thought of creating a social event where people could do exactly that was part of what attracted me to Campfire Convention initially.

Handsworth Park Arts Trail has been shortlisted for an Aviva Community Fund Award. Please register and vote for this great project in Birmingham!

Handsworth Creative is trying to change the image and reputation of an area blighted by a legacy of gangs and gun-crime. It is a small Community Interest Company made up of local artists who care about their community, using art and community activities to bring different communities together.

The workshops will be held in the Park itself (using the community café) as it is a space that is very well used and ‘loved’ by all communities and is seen and perceived as both a safe space and one that is neutral and genuinely shared by all communities.

Campfire Voice : Andy Scaysbrook

@Andy Scaysbrook is an award winning photo journalist based in Bournemouth and has been a member of Campfire since its launch. He has over 30 years experience of collecting photos and stories from all over the world. We caught up with him on a sunny spring morning.

What are you up to?

At the moment I'm building a new website to host a new series of portraits whilst contemplating the future and hoping for a good summer.

Day 1 of my Photographs and Story project

Today 18th April, begins my Photographs and Story project. I will only be taking photos using my Samsung Galaxy Edge phone camera.  I traveled with my daughters to The Bedwyns, a historic place on the borders of Powys and Hereford. Kandace wanted to photograph the landscape. Josie came along for a change. A friend drove us because I have been forgetting things and didn't recall that I had driven Kandace to The Bedwyns previously to meet friends on a foggy day in winter. Today we were excited to celebrate and greet the Spring in the glory of sun and wind upon the Bedwyns.
