@Andy Scaysbrook is an award winning photo journalist based in Bournemouth and has been a member of Campfire since its launch. He has over 30 years experience of collecting photos and stories from all over the world. We caught up with him on a sunny spring morning.

What are you up to?

At the moment I'm building a new website to host a new series of portraits whilst contemplating the future and hoping for a good summer.

Tell us about something you're excited about

I'm launching a new portrait business, something I've wanted to do for a long time now. Portraiture has always been my passion. If you look at my website www.andyscaysbrook.com which covers nearly thirty years as a professional editorial photographer, virtually every single image has a person in it. I'm often asked to shoot portraits for people of all ages and lifestyles from Babies to Grandparents so I decided to wrap it all up in a new site and launch it on the public in the next few weeks. Really looking forward to getting it out there.

How is Campfire for you?

It's great. I love the content and the initiatives that are being launched and the broad-based membership provides plenty of inspiration. I'm getting to the end of my tether with social media if I'm honest. Its values are changing and it eats so much time up for the very little reward. I wish I had more time to contribute to CC, maybe I will when things calm down a little. Working on the homeless project with @Kimm Fearnley and the Bournemouth Beacon has been an eye opener on so many levels. Campfire is at it best for me when its members are out there making waves. We have made a fair few down here with many more to come! I've met some really good people through Campfire and for me, that's the most important thing. It's not easy to find like-minded souls these days and Campfire is doing a great job in bringing people together and forming friendships and bonds.

Current favourite food and drink?

Marstons IPA from Aldi is a winner!  Last weekend, I had the great pleasure of eating what was one of the best meals I have ever eaten cooked and prepared by the wonderful Enrique Perez Valdes a Cuban friend and a master of fabulous fusion cooking. Wow, mind blown! He is also a Salsa master and a great guy too. I love the Cubans, so talented on so many levels.

Current favourite music / film / radio / tv / reading matter (please select as you wish)

Favourite Tunes at the moment. Ben Howards, second album, I Forgot Where We Were. A masterpiece in my humble opinion. We are going to see him play at The Eden Sessions in the summer, I cannot wait. The songs are a deep, deep dive and sonically I think its just brilliant. He's also a huge Talk, Talk fan so he's always cool in my book. His guitar playing astounds me, so many different approaches and styles he has it all, the voice, the musicianship, the writing and he is also a very humble and decent guy too. Bastard!

If you could go away somewhere tomorrow, where would you choose and why?

Cuba. A little part of my heart and souls exists just for Cuba. A close second is Costa Rica. We were lucky enough to spend a month travelling around and its people and beauty were just incredible. Peru is calling too. Sooner, rather than later.

How do you relax?

I play the guitar. I have been playing for thirty years now so just about got the hang of it. I'm currently working with my old band, we've been together for the past ten years and have had a new Bass player join us so we are going to be gigging soon too. I also love my cycling so I spend a lot of time on my mountain bike with my headphones on pedalling along the prom lost in my own little world. Spotify, I love you.

How does society need to change?

Phew! Don't get me started.

Rule 1. Let's play nicely and start looking after each other first, the rest we can make up from there. Rule 2. Take the Tories out!

Do you have a message for Campfirers?

Keep up the excellent work, keep ya fingers in the Jam jar and let's see where this all goes. P.S If any of you need a good photographer, wink, wink... X
