The dream was unraveling. After a decade or more looking on enviously at my friends’ camper vans and hearing about their road trips and adventures, it was time to take the plunge and go mobile. A friend had recommended a Swift motor home and so I attended the NEC last October for the Caravan and Motorhomes exhibition and looked at a variety of models. The Bessacarr range actually appealed because of the decent interior design and upholstery, and after climbing inside a few and trying them out for size and spec, I gravitated towards the 484 because it was the only one that seems to have a large storage area hidden away as a ‘boot’ which would work well for my PA system. That gave me a slightly mischievous scheme of an idea...if I bought a generator I could literally set up on a mountainside and have my own personal, highly portable rave!

Putting that thought aside for the time being, I spent a few weeks thinking through the options and decided to order the Bessacarr 484 for delivery in early January (not ideal, but July delivery was the other option which would mean missing half of the summer) My laissez-faire, live for today modus operandi was taking hold. Who knows what time each and every one of us have left on this earth so my motif became ‘No time to lose!’ I was largely unclear about what was in store.. was this van owners thing a cult? Would I need to learn a secret wave to other drivers? Would I need to join a forum? Would I now be classed as a geriatric saga lout? I’m sure it will all unravel...
